The Kodi platform is well known for providing good quality applications and content by giving people access to countless hosts worldwide. All one has to do to be able to accomplish this is to simply install the Kodi platform itself, configure it and then download one of many popular add-ons that will deliver you access to thousands of entertainment programs. These add-on programs act very much like aggregators, if you will. Kodi is the middle man and the add-ons are the actual service providers using Kodi as a route to you.
With there simply being so many various add-ons, each with so many categories and channels of content, there is literally a lifetime of viewing just waiting to be made available for you via Kodi.
Sound good? Well, it is! But there is a potential problem that we need to address. Many streaming services available these days are simply of very low quality and we mean “low quality” quite literally. The resolution of these streams is often quite low, making it to 720p as a best case scenario, sometimes even worse. Streaming FHD 1080p content is often hard to find, and in the year of 2018, it is simply unacceptable to be dealing with quality of anything lower.
Is HD content really that big of a deal?
Absolutely! 1080p is such a big deal that I bet you didn’t even know that it’s actually more than twice the resolution of 720p? Maybe you should have a crash course on picture quality and resolution:
720p actually stands for 1280×720, which means 1280 vertical pixels and 720 horizontal ones. What does this mean? Do the math – literally. 1280 times 720 equals 921,600 pixels.
1080p is shorthand for 1920×1080, and the answer to that equation is 2,073,600 pixels. That’s just over two times the amount.
Having the numbers on page is handy and informational, but compare 720p side by side to 1080p and you will easily be able to notice that the 720p picture is less defined, blurrier and has more noticeable pixelations as evidenced by the jaggy squares. 1080p is considered full high definition because of how much sharper it is due to the higher density of pixels.
If you’ve ever spent any amount of time looking for streams then you’re probably already well aware that most streams look very pixelated. This is due to low resolutions like 480p or even 240p.
We’re here to tell you how to avoid all of those useless low quality streams and only aim for the best. This is precisely why we think Real-Debrid is so important for the modern day standards of high quality pictures.
Real-Debrid: What it is and why you want it
Real-Debrid is a multi-hosting service that gives its users massive access to some of the top streaming sources that are very difficult to find anywhere else. The company advertises themselves as the self-proclaimed “unrestricted downloader” that allows you to efficiently optimize download speeds. It’s a great and convenient tool as it allows you to take full advantage of your internet set up. As long as you have Real-Debrid active, you’ll have a list of streaming sources at your fingertips like never before.
You should be aware of precisely what Real-Debrid actually is. It isn’t an add-on in the typical sense. It is a multi-hoster which gives you access to more additional add-ons. This is the best way of thinking about it. You could even consider it a “meta-add on” if that helps.
In order for Real-Debrid to be installed and function correctly, you have to already have a Kodi add-on that supports it. You could use Exodus or Covenant as those are two of the most popularly downloaded choices.
Real-Debrid is what to consider if you not only want variety but quality too. Not only will the glory of 1080p be in your grasp with Real-Debrid but you’ll also be able to mitigate some of Kodi’s buffering issues. Real-Debrid also acts as a minor performance upgrade for Kodi 17.6.
Getting Real-Debrid Up and Running
What you need to do next is sign up for an account registered with Real-Debrid. This account will be needed later on as you log into your Kodi platform and sync up the two services – we’ll discuss this in more detail later.
However, before we continue with the registration process we want to share a few words with you concerning streaming, browsing and privacy. There is still a rather large misconception that exists on the internet that your streaming history and activities remain private via your regular internet connection, or that access to Real-Debrid guarantees security and privacy. But this is simply not the case.
Whenever you log into Real-Debrid you can read their privacy policy. It explicitly states that your information and data will be logged. This includes your geo-location, your IP address and perhaps most importantly your download activities. Real-Debrid even goes as far to state that this information is allowed to be disclosed for legal reasons should the opportunity arise. This is part of the deal you sign when you sign up for an account with Real-Debrid.
We cannot blame them for operating like this as many streaming activities are considered breaking the law. Real-Debrid is only doing this to protect themselves. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean you also shouldn’t take measures into your own hands to protect yourself.
If you desire security, privacy and anonymity then the most effective way will be to use a Kodi compatible VPN. ExpressVPN is what we would recommend as it seems to be the most effective and well optimized for the Kodi 17.6 build.
Now that we’ve discussed the legal risks involved, let’s begin with the steps:
The Download Instructions
Step 1: Go visit real-debrid.com and then click on “Sign Up” on the right hand side of the page
Step 2: The registration form will then appear on the following page. Enter in your personal details they ask for and then proceed
Step 3: Soon you will get an email at the address you entered requesting that you verify and validate. Click on the provided link to continue the process and finalize your registration.
Step 4: Return to real-debrid.com and login with the credentials that you used.
Now your registration is complete and you have your very own account with Real-Debrid. You will be able to add Real-Debrid to Kodi and begin implementing their services for free. Take note that with a free account you only have access to some, not all features.
This means that you can only use Real-Debrid from 6am to Noon Central European Time (CET), or 5am to 11AM GMT. If you want to bypass this then you will have to gain access to their premium membership which we will detail below:
Real-Debrid Premium Details and Payment Plan
The additional features of the premium membership will prove especially useful to anyone who wants to unlock the true potential of Real-Debrid’s streaming capabilities. They are as follows:
- An increased download streaming cap of up to 300mbps
- Multiple downloads/streams
- Unlimited traffic
- Use HTML5 streaming without the need of extra plugins
- Zero ads and no waiting time
- Extra new streaming channels with more quality options, from SD to full HD
There are four payment plans Real-Debrid offers. The price is normally made out in Euros but I have converted all values into USD for more mainstream convenience:
- 15 days for 3 Euros ($3.65)
- 30 days for 4 Euros ($4.82)
- 90 days for 9 Euros ($10.85)
- 180 days for 16 Euros ($19.25)
Real-Debrid accepts all major debit and credit cards but also accepts Bitcoin and Amazon Pay.
Regardless of whether you are using the freemium or the premium service, below you can learn how to install and how to use Real-Debrid with Kodi 17.6.
Installation Instructions
Don’t worry, setting up Real-Debrid for Kodi is quite simple even though it appears there are a lot of steps. I assure you that each step is easy to follow, but they do need to be done correctly.
Take note that Kodi 17.6 on Windows 10 is the version that the software specs in these instructions follow. If you run into any unforeseen problems then it is probably due to using a different OS or an outdated version of Kodi. Double check that you are using the latest version of Kodi to make sure the process will go smoothly for you.
Most Kodi users have Krypton rather than the Jarvis version. While the following instructions apply to the Krypton version, we will include Jarvis compatible steps later in this tutorial.
Anyway, let us begin:
Kodi 17.6 (Krypton)
Step 1: Turn Kodi on from your device then open up the Settings. It is displayed in the top left corner as a cog icon.
Step 2: Now click “System Settings”
Step 3: At the bottom left beside the settings icon, if it reads: “Basic” then keep on clicking until you reach “Expert” then click on that
Step 4: Click “Add-ons” on the sidebar.
Step 5: Select “Manage dependencies” from the right side
Step 6: Scroll to the bottom on this new page and then click on “ResolveUrl”. If you don’t see this, you will have to install the Covenant, Elysium, Exodus etc. Kodi Addon before moving on.
Step 7: Click on “Configure”
Step 8: Click on “Universal Resolvers” on the new page that pops up
Step 9: Now scroll down and locate the “Real-Debrid” section. Then click on “Priority”
Step 10: A numeric key pad will pop up. Enter in “90” and then press “Done”
Step 11: Press on OK in the top right hand corner. Make sure you press OK and not just exit out normally or Step 10 will not be saved
Step 12: Click on “Configure” once again
Step 13: Click on “Universal Resolvers” again but this time after scrolling down to “Real-Debrid” section, select “(Re)Authortize my Account”
Take Note – Before clicking on “(Re)Authorize my Account” you should go to real-debrid.com/device and sign in first so that you save some time for the upcoming steps
Step 14: A code will now appear on screen which must be entered in at real-debrid.com/device
Some things you should know about this code
- It will only remain valid for two minutes, so you need to act quickly
- It can’t be copy pasted and must be entered in manually
- the code isn’t case sensitive
- you must be signed into your account that you made earlier in order to enter it in
Step 15: Once you have entered in the code, click on Continue to proceed
Step 16: Once the code has been verified, the page will tell you that it has been properly authenticated, which means you can continue on back to your Kodi platform
Step 17: Kodi will get a notification in the top right hand corner saying “Real-Debrid Resolver Authorized”
That’s it. Now you have added Real-Debrid to Kodi 17.6 Kypton version. With this out of the way we can now move on to using Real-Debrid itself.
Let us remind you that streaming content is the most sensitive aspect of using services like Kodi or third party applications like Real-Debrid. While some might say that downloading third party content is problematic, the copyright issues generally only come into play once copy-righted material is accessed and streamed. If you want to remain protected, now is the time to initialize a VPN for anonymity.
Using Real-Debrid with Kodi 17.6
For the majority of add-ons, not much needs to be done in order to make them compatible with Real-Debrid. Take Exodus for example. Once it is downloaded and installed all you’ve got to do is pick whatever program or movie you would like to watch and you’ll see a new number of streams added. Real-Debrid passively and automatically works this way.
What should you do in the off chance that Real-Debrid isn’t auto enabled? First of all, the best way to tell is if Real-Debrid streams are not added onto the lists of your particular streaming add-ons. This most commonly happens if you’re utilizing Neptune Rising. Here’s how you can enable it manually:
Step 1: From the Kodi homepage, go to Add-ons, then Video Add-ons, and click on the Neptune Rising option (or Elysium, Exodus, Covenant and etc.).
Step 2: Click on Tools from the following list
Step 3: Click on SETTINGS: Debrid
Step 4: Click on Debrid Providers from the sidebar on the left hand side. Next, click on “Enable Debrid Providers” by switching the toggle to the right hand side. Then click on OK. You must exit by clicking on OK and not the close window bar or these changes will not be saved.
Step 5: You should now be able to access the extra streams of the program you originally wanted to watch.
Setting Up Real-Debrid for Kodi Jarvis
As we mentioned earlier, Kodi on Jarvis uses slightly different directions for installation than the more commonly used Kodi on Krypton. Krypton is generally considered to be the more optimized and stable version. However, we cannot ignore the fact that many are still using Jarvis and for whatever reason will not be switching over. If you still use Jarvis, the following guide is for you.
The instructions overall are very similar to the previous steps for Krypton but there are several key and significant differences you must pay attention to. Luckily it’s still just about as simple as the previous guide. Let’s get started:
Step 1: Launch Kodi. Then head on over to “System” -> “Settings”, then “Add-ons”, then “System”, then “Dependencies”.
Step 2: Click on “URLResolver” from the following list
Step 3: Click on “Configure” on the next page
Step 4: Click on “Universal Resolvers” on the left hand side
Step 5: Scroll down until you find the section titled “Real-Debrid”
Step 6: Like in the previous guide for Krypton, set the “Priority” value from 100 to 90.
Step 7: Click on OK to save your changes. (Exiting any other way from this page will negate Step 6.)
Step 8: Go back again to the “Configure” option, and then click on “Universal Resolvers”
Step 9: Scroll back down to Real-Debrid option and then turn on the “(Re)Authortize My Account” feature
Step 10: Once the code appears on the screen, like in the previous guide head on over to real-debrid.com/device and then click on Allow. Make sure that you are already logged into Real-Debrid using the username/password you chose earlier.
Step 11: Finally, go back to Kodi and you should soon see a notification appear from the top right hand side informing you that Real-Debrid Resolver is activated and authorized.
That’s it. You have now successfully installed and configured Real-Debrid for your Jarvis build of Kodi. Enjoy.
