The Chronology of The Seven Deadly Sins

The first season of The Seven Deadly Sins was released in Japan in 2014. Its first English release came to Netflix the following year, in 2015.

After that, we got a four episode special called The Seven Deadly Sins: Signs of Holy War, released in 2016 in Japan and then in 2017 on Netflix. Many people refer to it as season two, but was officially designated as a miniseries special.

Then we got The Seven Deadly Sins: Revival of the Commandments. This was officially the second season of the series but since Netflix listed it as season 3, that’s the designation it is usually given.

Now after three seasons – or two seasons and a mini special, if you will – we are all still patiently waiting for The Seven Deadly Sins season 4: Wrath of the Gods.

Is The Seven Deadly Sins Season 4 Out?

If you’ve heard conflicting answers about The Seven Deadly Sins season 4, you’re probably wondering which answer is correct. Is season 4 out, or is it not yet out? Well, the truth is that both answers are somewhat true.

The Seven Deadly Sins: Wrath of the Gods began airing in Japan in October of 2019. At the time of this article’s writing, season 4 is still in the middle of its airing on its original network, TV Tokyo.

However, while the show is currently available in Japan, it is not yet available on English networks or English versions of streaming services, including Netflix.

While we can only guess why The Seven Deadly Sins season 4 still isn’t available in English, it probably has to do with the localization. In other words, the English tracking or the ‘dub’ is still incomplete.

When Will The Seven Deadly Sins Season 4 be Available in English?

As you can tell from the chronology of the series’ history and release, The Seven Deadly Sins always comes out in Japan first before any other country. There is usually a delay of about a year between the original Japanese airing and the English airing in other countries.

The Show Has a New Production Company

While this may be speculation, part of the reason why The Seven Deadly Sins season 4 isn’t out yet in English is because the show switched animation production companies. The show’s writers and director worked with A-1 Pictures for the first three seasons but are currently with Studio Deen for the fourth season. This change with the production and animation team may be part of the cause of the delay.

Fortunately for all fans of the show we can make some pretty reliable predictions about the probable release of The Seven Deadly Sins season 4, even if its production company or Netflix haven’t given any official statements.

It’ll Most Likely Be Released Sometime in 2020

Since it takes about a year for a new season to get translated and released in English, we can safely say that The Seven Deadly Sins season 4 will be released sometime in 2020. Since The Seven Deadly Sins season 4 was released in Japan in October 2019, we expect that its English release will also come out later on in the year of 2020. In other words, season 4 will probably not come out on Netflix until around September or October 2020.

It’s a shame that fans will probably have to wait so long until The Seven Deadly Sins season 4 comes out, but at least you don’t have to worry. Because season 4 is currently airing in Japan, there is no way that Netflix wouldn’t continue to stream it, especially with the huge demand that the show has.
